This summer has been nuts with shows and travel. This weekend, I had the chance to play the Sound Academy in Toronto for the first time, for the 2011 Edge 102.1 Sausagefest. The bands were: The Salads, The Reason, The Sheepdogs and Public Enemy. Insane!!!

Sunday, June 7th, 2009There are lots of things coming g up for me in the next two weeks! Im pretty pumped for NXNE this year, as I’ll be playing 3 shows that weekend, one not an actual NXNE show, but will be cool in it’s own respect.
I will also be playing with Ben Standage’s other band ‘The Hots’ for (I think) their first NXNE gig at Neutral in Kensington market on Saturday. I’m especially looking foreward to this gig because I’m going to be learning a bunch of songs… Not that I’m complaning, but I’ve been playing more or less, the same Birds of Wales tunes for the last 3.5 years.
Speaking of Birds of Wales, we’ve got a lot going on too. Our LONG awaited disc is slated to be released at the end of July-likely to be availabe on iTunes. Were also readying another disc in the mean time, filled with unreleased tracks that we think everyone should hear. And even more exciting news, we’ve got a whole batch of new songs that were going to start demoing, and readying to be recorded – potentially to be released next year, depending on timing.

New Pedal Day: Tone Factor Mule (aka MojoHand Mule)

I recieved a new pedal today in the mail, all the way from Newfoundland.. It was used, however, most of my pedals have bene used, and i’ve rarely had a problem with used pedals… These things are built to last.
Just opened the box, and here she is, a custom pink colored Tone Factor Mule Pedal.. Its supposto be somewhere between a fuzz and overdrive, i’m hoping it does what i’m expecting it to do. I’ve got the low overdrive sound covered with a Gaspedals CARB, I’ve got a Crowther HotCake for my rocky overdriven sound, a Cusack Screamer Fuzz II for my over the top type of overdriven sound… The last link in the puzzle is some kind of fuzz.
I’ve never really been an overly huge fan of fuzz pedals – and i’ve had many, i’ve wasted many hours trying to tweek and work with them, but I’m just not sure fuzz is for me.
This is another attempt. Wish me luck.
Expect an update and an overview of the pedal after I get a chance to try it out for a few rehearsals.

Monday, May 11th, 2009I will be the first to admit that I have a crush on the singer Courtney in KaiserCartel, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a unbiased opinion on their music…. Right? Birds of Wales played with them in Toronto at CMW this year, and I was blown away. They finished their set singing aloud walking through the crowd, coming right up to people, almost uncomfortably close. I guess it was their ‘Thank You’ Song. Check them out, they’re on tour right now through the US, and will be hitting up the UK in June.
