March Music Madness!

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

March is looking like a friggen crazy month for me…. its all kind of exploded really quickly, but in a really great way.

We were accepted to play at SXSW about a month and a half ago… which is amazing – i’ve never been to texas, and i’m thrilled to be playing in such an amazing musical event. I hope I get to meet some famous people or something!

Also, we’re playing at CMW in weekend before we leave for SXSW… This is another weekend long music festival hosted in Toronto – this is also quite exciting as it will be my 3rd year playing in it.

And ALSO! Last week we found out that we were accepted on a tour with Mishka. This tour is especially exciting, because its across Canada – i’ve never actually been to any of the prairie provinces, and i’m going to get the opportunity to see Calgary, Whistler, Saskatoon, maybe Moosejaw (where I was born).

So all this is going to be happening in the next 3-4 weeks… i’m leaving for Vancouver on Wednesday this week, will be on tour with Mishka for 10 days, will arrive back in Toronto for a week, to play a few shows (CMW), then off to texas for another week… CRAZZZZYNESS! I’m going to be trying to update this blog as much as I can while i’m on the road (thank you iPhone WordPress app!!). I’m actually looking forward to putting my 6gb iphone usage to the test while on this tour – maybe i’ll hit 1gb in a month!

Oh, one more thing….. There may be some flakiness with this site in the next day or two – i’m transferring domain registrars – and it might cause a short blackout period… but nothing you should be worried about!

PS3 Intentionally Hard to Develop For, Says Sony – Shacknews – PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I found this intriguing…. I guess, since the PS3 has the forcasted 10 year life cycle, that they intentionally made it difficult to build games, and applications for it…. Makes sense I guess, its an interesting insight into how these larger companies have control over their market.

Apple TV + Boxee = My new god

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

picture-1If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook or know me in real life, you’ve probably heard me ranting about my new Apple TV box. I bought it just before Christmas and have been using it along with my wonderful Christmas gift from my parents – a 32″ Toshiba (1080i) LCD HDTV.

Can I just say, that it has basically completely changed the way that I watch tv – and the best part is that it has so much incredible potential to be so much more – This little box paired with the Boxee software creates this incredible social media, music media playing, podcast playing, streaming internet video playing, downloading, wonderfully…… and so on.

I think the best part about it is that it automatically indexes and finds media that is stored on your networked drives. So in my case, i’ve got a pretty basic network consisting of a modem, a wireless N router, and a NAS drive. I keep all of my media on the NAS drive (that could be RAIDed for security), and boxee knows to keep an eye on the files that are on the NAS drive – so whenever I upload a new file to the NAS (usually through finder), Boxee often automatically finds it, and makes it best guess as to what the movie, or tv show is called (sometimes its wrong, but its super easy to change the name, and give it the right data – it IS getting much better at identifying content though).

I highly suggest that if you haven’t already tried the alpha, that you give it a whirl. It runs on Windows, OSX, Linux and Apple TV and is relatively easy to install, and if you get into a bind, they’ve got a really great development team, and also a very active forum – someone is always available to help.

  6. Ability to delete default icons off the springboard
  7. Turn by Turn navigation using Google maps
