Yum, This Looks Pretty Tasty…

Right? Most of that food you eat looks pretty good? It better, after all – you’re eating it.

I saw this post on the Toronto Slop website today showing this video (taken from a documenary called Food, Inc.)

This struck me, and I think that it looks fantastic. Knowing that I have an eating problem, I can’t help but wonder, what effect the types of food I’m eating have on it.

With this in mind, I’ve recently made a concious decision to on more occasions than usual – pay a little extra for food that is probably healthier for me. For example, instead of milk – i’m now buying Soy milk. Instead of buying regular cereal at the store, i’ve started buying organic cereal at the bulk food store (including Granola). And so on.

Please take a look at the Food Inc. trailer, and also visit their website and sign up for their newsletter.

Toronto Tamil Protests

Protesters stop traffic at Younge and Dundas in Toronto, in front of the Eaton Centre

Protesters stop traffic at Younge and Dundas in Toronto, in front of the Eaton Centre

I was downtown last night about go to see my bandmate Ben Keith go play a show not too far from the Eaton Centre. It was a pretty nice night, so I decided to walk from my apartment at Bloor and Spadina down to the area he was playing at.

Coming down Younge St, there was a huge ruckus – More Tamil protests.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already seen the video, and pictures of their group of people running up the Spadina rd, Gardener exit, and then right into oncoming traffic on the Gardner Freeway – all during rush hour in downtown Toronto.

I believe that these people have a right to be protesting, and in fact are doing a great job at it. They’ve reached the point of causing the regular joe a bit of a headache, enough to make them stop and think, and maybe go onto the ‘internets’ and research a bit about what they’re complaining about.

citynews.ca

Nearly 4,000 civilians (in Sri Lanka) have been forced to flee over the past few days as the fighting moves closer. It’s estimated some 200,000 people are waiting out the war in crowded displacement camps.

Please do yourself a favor, and before you start complaining about minor inconveniences that these protesters are causing, do a quick google search, and learn something about their cause.

Fresh Wood Grill – Kensington Market

img_0289I had lunch today in Kensington Market today at a nice little place called Fresh Wood Grill with Dila. I don’t see Dila all too often anymore, so its always nice to be able to sit down and have a chill chat with her.

She’s helped the band out quite a bit in the past, and we’ve pretty much promised her a credit on the upcoming CD, not to mention being our backup sound person – apparently she has the capability to manipulate sliders…. she insists that she deserves a holographic unicorn that yells out her name somehow, but I’m not sure it’ll be in the budget… We’ll do our best I guess!

Anyway, the Fresh Wood Grill is a nice little spot on Baldwin St, right next to the Army Surplus store.. I’ve eaten there many times, and have enjoyed it thoroughly each time. Today I had the steak sandwich with sweet potato frieds, and they were delish. I highly recommend trying this place out! (It’s Cheap too!!)

I <3 KaiserCartel

I will be the first to admit that I have a crush on the singer Courtney in KaiserCartel, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a unbiased opinion on their music…. Right? Birds of Wales played with them in Toronto at CMW this year, and I was blown away. They finished their set singing aloud walking through the crowd, coming right up to people, almost uncomfortably close. I guess it was their ‘Thank You’ Song. Check them out, they’re on tour right now through the US, and will be hitting up the UK in June.

Change is in the air!

I’ve decided recently that I need to ACTUALLY start blogging. I’ve recently met some really cool people who always find time to blog, at least once a day, or every couple of days.. I guess i’ve been concerned with content, but really, who actually reads my blog.. maybe If I start writing random stuff about my day, people will start to read? right?

I’d like to throw a shout out to my friend Sass, and my drummer (and friend) Ben, they’re both people who have inspired me to make an effort to blog more often, even if its just a quick daily blurb with a photo.
