A New Project on the Horizon

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I’m going through the process of starting up a small web site/ slicing/coding project… I’m hoping that this project will bring some extra cash my way.

Basically what it will be is a service for designers who dont really want to spend their time coding sites and would rather just send their site design or mock up to someone who has  experience doing standards based markup (me). I’ll be providing this service within 3 days of submission of the artwork, and will be charging a reasonable price.

Later on I plan to introduce WordPress integration to the service for an added fee. So basically, any joe schmoe who knows how to use photoshop can have a fully working functional template on their hands….

I’m completely aware that this is in no way groundbreaking or new, however,  i’ve been encountering other similar services, and seeing the (not low, but not high end either) quality of work that they produce, and cant help but think about how they’re making a decent chunk of money. Basically, I think I can do it better, and hopefully in the end, i’ll have a small business. Perhaps i’ll even need to “hire” another web monkey!

Blog Action Day! (What i’ve been doing)

Bloggers Unite - Blog Action Day

If anyone who reads my blog is at all connected with the recent news that our earth might be dieing faster than we had originally thought, you’re probably scared shit-less as much as I am. Ive decided that I would take it on to myself to do my little part (no-matter how little it may be, or may effect what our future will be) at least,  I can say I did something to help.

Some things i’ve been being very conscious of in the last few months:

  1. Not leaving lights on for extended periods of time (keeping rooms that are unoccupied, dark).
  2. Reduce the amount of plastic bags I come home with (I bought one of those canvas bags to carry my food from the store in).
  3. Ride, Walk, Jog, more (less use of mechanized transportation).
  4. Use the green garbage more than before (I’m not very good at this, but I’m making a conscious effort to use it more, and trying to get my house mates to also follow. Lead by example).

I truly believe that small things can help. To what extent they will help, nobody knows. But saving our earth is definitely on my mind, and should be on everyone’s minds.

Please visit the Blog Action Day website, and if you have a blog, join in on the event. Its one thing you can do to bring this kind of thing into the general thoughts of people.

Thanks!

And then there was …. iPhone

Goodbye K-Jam. HELLO iPhone!

Yep, i made the jump. Got me a shiny new iPhone.

Since my iPod died last month, I was stuck in a delemma. Get a boring old iPod Classic, and be stuck with carrying both an iPod and bulky kJam phone (Great phone) around with me (this is no easy task), OR just go out and buy myself an iPhone.

iPhone cost $500
kJam selling price $275 (realistic selling price: $250)

After I sell the kJam on Craigslist, or redflagdeals.com, I will have essentially spent $250 on this wonderful piece of hardware.

Its silky screen, its polished silver frame, its brushed aluminum back *slobbers*.

Its so far been great. I’m glad I bought it. Longer review to come (after I use it for a few weeks)!

Tough time ahead

Monday, October 1st, 2007

So, i’m faced with a major problem right now.. Its the usual money kind of thing, which is something that I usually try not to let bother me, as I’ve made some decisions with my life that have directly effected my current financial situation, and those choices were my own, and i’ve proceeded knowing that tough times with money were going to be an apparent problem.

I’ve always been lucky enough to be, not wealthy, but i’ve always had access to a small amount of extra cash laying around to spend on things, but i’m starting to get a taste of what its like to not have that kind of extra money laying around. I guess i’ve been spoiled.

Either way, everyone has tough times, and you have to go through the tough times to have the good times, its the spice of life. I’m not overly worried about my problems, as I know i’m capable of taking care of them however, when you’re in the moment, everything always seems to be magnified.

So, I probably wont be leaving my house much for the next month. Especially with the planned trip to Europe in November. I’m on money-save mode, and its probably gonna have to stick for a while.

Hahahaa Silly Iphone-ers

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Feel free to call me an asshole, but I have no remorse for those who have gotten themselves an apple Iphone, unlocked it, and installed the new firmware.

Maybe its just jealousy? Nahh. I’ll wait a few months and get an iphone at a reasonable price, and hopefully a more reasonable storage size (8 gigs is pathetic).

I’m considering getting one of the new Ipod Classics’s for the time being…. Mainly because I was surprised today when I took a look at the Apple site and noticed that the lowest iPod capacity is now 80gigs not 60gigs (which is what I thought it was).. Either way.. I think the classic is the best option for me at this current time. I’ve got a pretty wicked cell phone already, and am quite happy with it.. Sure its not the eye candy that the iPhone is, but, it will do me just finely for now.
