Helvetica – Oh how I love thee

If you know me, or have seen any (most) of my design work. You probably know how much I love the font Helvetica. You may also know that I have shunned Arial (or mostly anything else pertaining to Micro$oft) out of my life forever.

Now theres a quiz you can take that will tell you if you know your stuff:
Arial or Helvetica

Branding the Youth

Have you noticed that over the last few years more and more marketing campaigns have targeted the younger generations? The Pre-Teen demographic is the perfect age to “snag em” and keep them for a long time. Especially when the children themselves have control over their parents spending. “Mommy can you buy me this Gucci watch”, “Daddy, I need to have an Ipod or my friends wont think i’m cool”. It pretty much sickens me seeing small children walking around with the latest cell phones.

There is now a group out of Boston Mass. called “Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood” . They are fighting the battle for todays youth by educating children parents and teachers about how to “fight back” against the brands that bombard young people every day.

BPL Soon?

Looks like we have a new way of getting the internet coming to our homes very soon. Its called Broadband Over Power lines – BPL. It looks pretty interesting, and could possibly *hopes* bring the cost of internet service providers down.

We’ve been using this new internet over our home power-lines in my house here in Toronto since January. Its pretty cool all you need is a router and these boxes to transmit and receive the information. We didn’t have to run any wires or anything. Nor do we need to worry about someone leeching off a wireless network. Its great.

Lets hope we see this in Canada sometime soon.

The move has begun!

Yes, as you can see, i’ve started moving to Textpattern.
I’ve only got a few more things to get down on the screen for it to be complete. yayy! Lets hope Textpattern treats me a little better than Movable type did. Although the new MT version (still in beta) looks very promising, I just dont think its worth it.
